Performing auto-ethnography

Wen Yau

As a cross-media artist, researcher, curator and writer based in Hong Kong, Wen Yau has focused on performance/live art and social practices. Her talk on performance and auto-ethnography will focus on the search of critical identities in social practices. Wen Yau‘s work often grapples with cultural differences and intimacy in public space and has been presented internationally. She was a researcher at Asia Art
Archive (2005–2012), organized the “Action Script: Symposium on Performance Art Practice and Documentation in Asia” (2010), and has just completed her PhD thesis, “Performing Identities: Performative Practices in post-Handover Hong Kong Art and Activism” at the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University. In 2015-2016, she served as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Performance Studies Department at Northwestern University, USA. She also contributes frequently to various periodicals in Hong Kong and Asia. www.wenyau.net
